Research and campaigning
Forced Marriages: Enfield Saheli has received a grant from the Nationwide Foundation to run Focus Groups on Forced Marriages. A report will shortly be published on the findings.
Funding: The charity is also involved in a campaign to bring greater awareness in relation to the current climate of funding, which may fundamentally impact on the existence of Asian women's organisations in the future. To achieve this aim, Saheli is working jointly with the University of East London and other Asian women's organisations to hold a conference on the topic on 2 July 2008. The conference will also raise awareness around volunteering and issues affecting younger Asian women.
Fair trade: Enfield Saheli is keen to support Fair trade and wherever possible it will endeavour to purchase fair trade products.
Reducing Carbon emissions: Enfield Saheli has created awareness within the community to reduce the carbon footprint and to help them live a more eco friendly life via the quarterly newsletters. We have been given energy saving bulbs from Powergen which those service users are entitled to who claim benefits such as Council tax benefit, DLA, Housing benefit, Income Support etc. |
